Dr. Garth Christenson

Dr. Garth Christenson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, prior to receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree, cum laude, from the Illinois College of Optometry. He then completed a Residency in Children's Vision at the Southern California College of Optometry and remained at the college for five years, teaching and performing research. In 1988, Dr. Christenson earned his Master of Science in Education from California State University at Fullerton.

He has earned several awards and honors, including the Strawn Leadership Award, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, Outstanding Young Men in America, Who's Who in California and Who's Who in Health Care. He is also very active in the community as a member of Hudson Rotary, Sheppard of the Valley Lutheran Church, Hudson High School Strive Mentorship Program, and Junior Achievement.

Dr. Christenson is board certified by the American Board of Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association, Wisconsin Optometric Association, College of Optometrists in Vision Development and has specialty status as a Binocular Vision Diplomate in the American Academy of Optometry. He has lectured on topics of vision care and published over 20 articles in professional journals. He is co-author of a textbook on dyslexia and was awarded "best article of the year" by Optometry and Vision Development in 2005. Because of Dr. Christenson's experience in children's vision and learning, he has served as a consultant to the Minneapolis New Visions Charter School.

Dr. Christenson's background and experiences allow him to emphasize patient education. As a result of this willingness to explain conditions to his patients, he has become known as "the communicating doctor."


Dr. Micki Flynn

Dr. Micki Flynn obtained her Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She had clinical rotations which focused on ocular disease, pediatric optometry and primary eye care. She was salutatorian of her optometry class and president of Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. She also received several scholarships for clinical and academic excellence, including the Ira Schwartz Award for outstanding achievement in pediatric optometry.

After receiving her optometry degree, Dr. Flynn was chosen for the Pediatric and Binocular Vision Residency Program which provided her with extensive training at various hospitals and clinics in the Boston area. This year-long program enabled her to gain expertise in treating children's vision problems such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn) and visually related learning problems.

Dr. Flynn is board certified by the American Board of Optometry and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association. She volunteers her time and services as a provider for the InfantSEE Program which enables any infant less than 12 months of age to have access to a no-cost comprehensive eye exam. She has also been involved in volunteer optometry missions including a 5-day trip to Nicaragua to provide free eye exams and glasses to over 1500 people in underprivileged communities.

Dr. Flynn compliments Christenson Vision Care with strong academic and leadership qualities as well as a track record of compassion and caring for patients. Her education and experience make her a valuable and integral part of the Christenson Vision Care team.


 

Introducing Dr. Lauren Soukup

 

Dr. Lauren Soukup

Dr. Lauren Soukup graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of St. Thomas. She earned her Doctorate of Optometry from New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She received honors in her rotations that focused on ocular disease and primary care including: Boston Medical Center (MA), Wenzhou Medical University (China), VA Healthcare-Newington (CT) and Naval Health Clinic Hawaii-Pearl Harbor (HI).

Dr. Soukup has studied extensively on Age-Related Macular Degeneration working alongside some of the forerunner researchers on the topic at the University of Minnesota. She co-authored a published paper on the subject in the hopes to help further understanding of the mechanism of the disease and advance treatment options. She is also a strong advocate of access to medical eye care for underserved communities. She was given an award for her dedication and commitment to the Bostom community where she frequently organized visual screenings at local elementary schools, nursing homes and homeless shelters.

Dr. Soukup is board certified by the American Board of Optometry and is a member of both the MInnesota and Wisconsin Optometric Associations.
